MeteorEYES

Many a local’s great indie hope, MeteorEYES brings a full-fledged stadium presence and production to local venues, with cosmic lighting, costuming and a sound not unlike Placebo or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs—electronic, but grounded in rock ’n’ roll. Their sound is fully realized, a sonic landscape of bass, synth and noise with stunning vocals. WRITTEN BY ASHTON GOGGANS //

MeteorEyes, who’s name was inspired from a poem titled “The Cloud” by P.B. Shelly are floating on their own little cloud these days, or so it seems.

MeteorEyes are deep in the throws of recording their record, a 7″ to be released in the US & Europe, a video shoot for the first single “Best Text” scheduled with FEELMAGIK Productions right around the corner and a full East Coast tour to support the record looming on the horizon, it seems like things are going their way.

MeteorEYES—Colossus by MeteorEYES
The band’s frontwoman and equal rights activist Shannon Fortner is fresh off planning and throwing the wildly successful 2nd Annual Harvey Milk Festival as Fortner’s hope for a better tomorrow can be lyrically traced in songs like Splish Splash, where she sings, ‘we will be the change when you open your eyes.’
Hats off to you MeteorEYES for creating something beautiful in your music and something beautiful in your vision of tomorrow.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 26
MeteorEYES w/This Is an Adventure Two dance bands from the 941 end their respective summer tours in St. Petersburg. Sarasota four-piece MeteorEYES — which is celebrating the release of their first EP, Snapshots — headline with confetti bursts of retrofied synth pop marked by the rich and throaty timbre of singer Shannon Fortner. This Is an Adventure is a Bradenton duo that sets vocoder-soulful vocals against upbeat electro serenades. (Fubar, St. Petersburg)

Throbbing disco beats, masks reminiscent of Kabuki theatre, a surplus of fuzzed-out bass guitars—MeteorEYES may be the darkest dance show you’ll find in Athens this week.
If the masks speak to a metaphorical kind of alienation, Fortner’s life and lyrics speak to a very real variety of alienation. Fortner’s partner lives in London.
